ABOUT BLOG/WEBSITE

This blog focuses on debunking pseudoscience, social misconceptions, and conspiracy hypotheses, both serious and less malicious ones. However, most people who fall for such nonsense or actively create it are understandably hesitant to read the content that debunks their viewpoints. The presence of confirmational bias and cognitive dissonance prevent them from confronting their personal beliefs with simple scientific facts. Of course, ironically they will always claim that science supports their viewpoints. Those who dare to venture into “the debunking realm” could thoroughly examine personal claims in a scientifically informed manner and (just maybe!) eventually realize how deep they fell into the rabbit hole of argumentative and logical fallacies, as well as for conspiratorial way of thinking.

This place is also dedicated to exploring the interplay between natural and social phenomena. There is a intent to cover diverse subjects such as religion, the environment, post-conflict societies, and other academic discourses. The focus is on scientific literacy to discern credible claims, critically evaluate information, and devise objective hypotheses. As Laplace’s principle states: “The weight of evidence for an extraordinary claim must be proportioned to its strangeness,” or Sagan’s version: “Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.” Independent and rational thinking, guided by evolutionary humanism, is also encouraged.

As someone who understands what science represents and how it propagates through the social fabric, I will refrain e.g. from reconciling the irreconcilable – religion and science – in order to please the false skepticism of some readers or simply for the sake of a superficial feeling of harmony. That would be a kind of Sisyphean endeavor immersed in modern philosophical sophistry. Such an endeavor is part of the agenda of even some highly educated people.* If someone decides to criticize this assessment as false, it would not be wrong to do so; I don’t mind seeing that. We are obliged to bring a [healthy] dose of skepticism into our cognitive process. However, according to historical data and all known argumentative fallacies used for this purpose, it is almost impossible to extrapolate another conclusion except to say “they are incompatible.” Those who still want to prove otherwise will probably force their own brain into weird cognitive gymnastics of relativism and apologetics.

Scientific literacy empowers us to constantly question and expand our understanding, fostering a mindset of curiosity and growth. It encourages us to embrace skepticism as a tool for learning, and to approach our assessments and conclusions with trust in our potential to adapt and grow. While we may encounter initial setbacks, the beauty of scientific literacy lies in its ability to guide us toward the body of scientific truths and encourage us to adjust our convictions based on unbiased data and the laws of nature.

Kindly take note that my native language comprises several polycentric South Slavic dialects. German serves as my secondary language, and English as my tertiary language. I try to use them in my writings as part of my linguistic exercise. Given that I predominantly source and share content from authors who write in English, I primarily utilize this language on my platform. Still, I must apologize in advance for any grammatical or stylistic errors, if they occur.

ABOUT ME

Social scholar · pedagogue · amateur natural scientist’

As a child who was born in the former Yugoslavia, I had the strangest opportunity in my life to witness the rise of clerical fascism, as well as the downfall of secularism within Yugoslav society and its political discourse. The next thing I remember was the beginning of ethnic/religious war, the destruction of human life, and the complete division of the Yugoslav federation. These events defined my decision to study law (still with a hidden passion for natural sciences) and to become a strong proponent of the enforcement of international criminal law and secularism as well. Secularism and laicism prove to be essential frameworks for long-lasting peace and inclusion in any civilized society. Pursuing such a goal, a healthy political and scientific discourse is a must, where a scientifically literate public is its most important ingredient.

Human history shows that “the more the religious, esoteric, or pseudo-scientific-based claims are part of the moral or political compass, the greater the risk that a specific society slowly takes the road to pseudo-science.” This slowly leads towards anti-secularism and ultimately to theocracy or fascism.

Therefore, I am actively supporting or working for organizations that strengthen or have the potential to elevate secularism, fact-checked political decision-making processes and science.
